Stringent testing - UL 2196 Standard

Test results provide clear evidence that our fire-rated cables perform far beyond the minimum requirements,
and therefore ensure safe and successful operation when lives are on the line.

EXCEEDING UL TEST 2196

The US standard for testing of electrical circuit integrity during a fire is UL Test 2196. This test uses the ASTM E119 fire curve to simulate a commercial fire. At 1- Hour, the test reaches 1700°F and at 2-Hours 1850°F. Our cables surpass the criteria outlined in this life safety standard.

COMPLETE SYSTEM TESTING

The testing system includes the cable and/or raceway support, couplings, boxes/ conduit bodies, optional splices, vertical supports, grounds, pulling lubricants, cable tray, etc. Cable or raceway supports need to hold the cable in place during the fire and hose stream.

HIGH QUALITY COPPER CONDUCTORS

The choice of a fully tested, high quality copper conductor that will survive in a fire scenario is a key element in the performance of this system. The proper conductor will cost more, but it is the critical element in making the difference between a system surviving a fire event…and one that could fail… causing considerable damage… and possibly loss of life!

OVER 2 HOURS IN THE TESTING FURNACE

In the testing furnace, Standard ETP copper conductors fail within 20 minutes in 8’ of conduit, while our cables last 2 hours in the same conditions. Other manufacturers cannot make these claims. These are life safety cables! Cables that only meet a minimum requirement of a specification are a tragedy waiting to happen.

HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL TESTING

To guarantee reliability in real-life situations, and meet the intent of the standard and guide… our cables are tested in horizontal and more demanding vertical orientations while energized.

WATER PRESSURE TEST

After the fire portion of the test, the cable systems are subjected to a rigorous test, withstanding the impact of a high pressure 2 1/2” hose stream for a full 3 minutes.
